Susannah Bowen

Susannah has held sales, marketing and business development roles in publishing in Australia and Europe. Her most recent role in publishing was Sales and Marketing Director for Open University Press / McGraw-Hill HSSL division, Europe. She has turned incomprehensible copy into suave marketing pieces; trained sales reps in Adelaide, Arizona and Amsterdam; managed integration of marketing and sales functions following business acquisitions; sold e-learning solutions in Oslo; built a telesales team; and sent direct mail into every corner of the globe. She enjoys working in all aspects of marketing, including copywriting, direct mail, e-marketing, competition and marketing analysis, as well as strategy, sales and presentation skills. Susannah is an Honorary Fellow at the University of Melbourne and runs subjects “Business and Professional Communications” and “Print Markets” in the MA Publishing and Editing degree.

Steve Carey

Steve has been Group Publisher for major consumer magazine publishing companies in the United Kingdom and in Australia. He has set up a national print and electronic publishing department. He’s set up telemarketing teams and written more than his fair share of direct mail campaigns. He’s sold advertising and sponsorships. He’s worked as Publications Manager and Business Development Manager for one of Australia’s biggest corporate and commercial law firms. He’s been General Manager of a print and electronic publishing company. Steve’s specialities include business consulting and mentoring, sales and editorial training, and snappy communications writing.

Alison Baverstock

Alison is a hugely experienced trainer and writer on all aspects of publishing and communications, marketing and reading. She has wide experience as a lecturer and trainer, having run training courses within publishing and communications for fifteen years. Alison has written ten books, including How to Market Books, Are Books Different?, Marketing Your Book, An Author’s Guide, and Publicity, Newsletters and Press Releases. Based in the United Kingdom, Alison works with Bloom Partners to develop training for the Australian market.
